More information about us
- Who are we?
- The Church at the Crossroads is a new worship community in Bergen County. We meet on Sunday evenings at 7:00 p.m. We are presently meeting in the First Presbyterian Church of Englewood, located at 150 E. Palisade Avenue (1 mile north of Route 4 on Grand Ave., then one block east).
- We invite you to send us e-mail to be kept informed of happenings at Crossroads.
- What do we believe?
- We are a progressive Christian community, committed to following Jesus Christ. We are committed to being inclusive and welcoming of all people. We are not fundamentalists. We believe that the Bible is an inspired witness to God, authoritative but not literal. To explore its meaning is something God meant for us to do together, with no one dictating how you must interpret it. We further believe that faith requires action - action to help those who are in need of physical or emotional care, the poor, the oppressed, and the distressed, both locally and abroad. Crossroads is a place where everyone can come, be themselves, and discover more about having a relationship with God one day at a time.
- How about the style of worship?
- No suits and no dresses. Our worship is natural and comfortable, with excellent music that invites you to listen. We don't believe in forced formality; we prefer a relaxed environment in which you can spend an hour being refreshed and informed, away from the pressures of the everyday world.
- What about the kids?
- Nursery care for toddlers and church school for young kids (through 5th grade) is normally available during the service from October through May.
- Why should I show up?
- If you are interested in developing your spirituality in an intelligent, non-judgmental environment, we just might be the place for you. But there's only one way for you to find out whether we really offer something that refreshes your soul, and that's for you to make the extra effort on one Sunday.
- Okay, so here we are, popping out of nowhere. You might be asking: "Who are these people, actually?" We appreciate healthy skepticism. We're affiliated with the Presbyterian Church U.S.A., a denomination with a long, rich history. We honor our roots, while embracing the future.
- Are you at all interested in learning more?
- Please send us an e-mail and we can answer any specific questions you may have. You can also give us ideas about what you would be looking for in a worship community, what you liked or disliked about this page, or just your thoughts and reactions in general.
- If you're interested in hearing a little more about what progressive Christianity sounds like, we invite you to listen to Jim Wallis, editor of Sojourners Magazine, discuss faith and politics here.
